Dressing The Hosts: Glorious Goodwood 2021

Goodwood. Where performance, tradition and style go hand in hand. Where summery temperatures are as high as the stakes. Where limits are tested, records are broken and speed is king. It’s little wonder the event is often preceded by the word ‘glorious.’ A race of kings and queens, the occasion has long been steeped in rich British history. That isn’t to say, however, that the festivities are characterised by starched collars and awkward small talk. On the contrary, Goodwood embodies a freedom of expression and challenging the norm. The catalyst for this ethos could be credited to King Edward VII doing away with morning dress to don a linen suit instead, or mischievously remarking that the event was a “garden party with horse racing tacked on.”

Speaking of all things equestrian, we had the pleasure of kitting out some of the ITV racing team with our very own garments... Racing correspondent and sports presenter Ed Chamberlin modelled our Leeds Linen Blue Jacket, thoughtfully paired with a Texas Chino in putty and a Brook Taverner formal shirt to deliver a classic but contemporary look. His debonair gusto was matched only by TV presenter and stylist Mark Heyes, wearing the Mayhew Double Breasted Tailored Fit Jacket with our Texas chino in stone. The ensembles were quintessentially Goodwood, emphasising relaxed and considered tailoring, without a doubt upholding the sartorial standards expected at the style event of the racing season.

Goodwood isn’t just a chance to experience high-octane racing, but also a medium for the promotion of worthy causes such as the Injured Jockeys Fund. We at Brook Taverner, along with Ed Chamberlin, are proud to be in association with a fund that since 1964 has aided over 1000 jockeys. Medical support, financial need and mental wellbeing are just some of the ways in which the IJF assists men and women regardless of age, gender, ethnicity, religion or sexual orientation.

The fund carries out its core values of compassion, care and support via three rehabilitation and fitness centres across the country. In addition to these invaluable facilities, a team of tireless Regional and Centre Liaisons work directly with beneficiaries on a support basis along with a team of 20 volunteer visitors. These visitors keep in touch with old and isolated beneficiaries, offering vital friendship and company to those who need it. Using code IJFE will give you access to 10% off any products on our website and will directly benefit the Injured Jockeys Fund!

We at Brook Taverner hope that those of you there will continue to have a truly glorious Goodwood, and those that who aren’t may be tempted to attend the whole host of events taking place there this summer!

Stay stylish. Warmest Regards,

The Brook Taverner Team.
