About our suits

Structure

The structure of a suit is its very foundation. It’s where the fabric, cut and inner details come together to create more than just a piece of clothing. A well tailored suit is about how it makes you feel when you wear it and how it holds up over time.

A Brook Taverner suit never cuts corners. It has just the right drape and shape, —conforming to your body, yet allowing for freedom of movement and outstanding comfort. Our half canvassed jackets are tailored to provide support where it’s needed the most, the chest and lapel, for a perfectly tailored look and fit. Extra details are always a part of our tailoring. Get to know our suits and you’ll find perfection in every piece.

Details

It’s the little things, the fine details, that are indicators of a quality suit. We pride ourselves on the subtle nuances that elevate our suits to superior status, like hand stitched lapel detailing, fully lined jackets, slimmer fitting trousers, button materials, ticket pockets, and comfort waistbands. It’s the selection of these and other details which give our suits their ultimate distinctiveness.

Fabrics

The benchmark of quality, our fabrics are carefully sourced from the finest mills in the world. From cool linens to Italian Moleskin, Harris Tweed and luxurious Merino Wool, our garments are created from the ideal material for today’s trimmer styles and streamlined appearance. Every piece is perfectly tailored to fit your body as well as your lifestyle.

TAILORED FIT SUITS

Perfect for Any Body Type

Tailored fit suits are complementary to all body types. The lower button stance and trimmer cut along the chest creates long lines, essentially making any physique look taller and slimmer.

It’s Not Too Snug…We Promise

For those transitioning from a larger, more roomy cut into the more stylish, tailored fit suits, give it a little time. At first your suit may feel snug, but just keep looking in the mirror. You look incredible.

The Suit Jacket

You may have noticed that tailored fit suit jackets are slightly shorter than classic fit. This smart look is perfect with the slimmer suit style. It gives you an overall clean, contemporary, and streamlined look.

The Trouser

Tailored suit trousers sit higher up on the shoe, due to a slimmer hem opening. This results in a trouser break at a much shorter length. Opt for a smaller half break or no break at all to bring your suits up to date.

Tailored Fit Suit Features

  • 1A slightly narrower, sleeker, notched lapel
  • 2Higher arm holes provide a cleaner, trimmer silhouette
  • 3A closer cut and more tapering of the sleeves
  • 4A snugger fit across the torso follows the natural shape of your body
  • 5Contemporary, slightly shorter jacket length
  • 6Slightly lower button stance elongates the body, complementing all body types
  • 7Narrower, more tapered leg opening

About our jackets

Structure

Our canvassed and lined suit jackets and blazers provide superior quality, and a fit that only improves over time. The structure, although hidden from view, plays an incredibly important role in keeping the proper shape of the jacket. It’s all about fit and form. Our jackets truly conform to your body’s shape and become a better fit the more often you wear them. With perfect drape a nice lapel roll and the ability to move without constricting, our jackets are a wardrobe staple.

Details

It’s the details that make the difference. Our jackets and blazers are created with their own personality. While the Otley is detailed with a classic notched lapel and metal crested buttons in bespoke fashion, the Harris Tweed jackets are exquisitely crafted from 100% virgin wool, hand woven by artisans in their homes in the Outer Hebrides of Scotland. Each piece bears the Orb Certification, the ultimate mark of authenticity. It’s like owning a piece of history.

Fabrics

Determined to carry on the elegance and tradition of the world’s most prestigious mills and artisans, our jackets and blazers are crafted from the finest materials. From certified Harris Tweed, Italian Moleskin, and 100% new wool to wool blends, our fabrics are second to none.

CLASSIC FIT JACKETS

About the Classic Fit Jacket

Our classic fit jackets are traditional and timeless. Roomy and comfortable, this style transcends trends and fashion, remaining the right choice for any occasion.

Classic Fit Jacket Sleeve Length

Sleeves on your suit jackets and blazers should always fall between a quarter inch and three-quarters of an inch above your shirt sleeves. Anything longer, will take away from the polished look of a classic fit.

Classic Fit Jacket Shoulders and Closure

The classic fit suit jacket is cut generously for a comfortable yet elegant fit across the shoulders, chest and torso. Although roomy, be sure the jacket is not too large. Shoulder seam should meet the sleeve of the suit right where your arm meets your shoulder and the jacket should close without pulling.

Classic Fit Jacket Length

The classic fit jacket length is slightly longer than the tailored jacket and the lapel is standard width.

Classic Fit Jacket Features

  • 1Standard Lapel
  • 2Cut wider for a strong shoulder line
  • 3Less tapering of the sleeves than the tailored fit jacket
  • 4Extra room across the chest and back for ease of movement
  • 5Classic jacket length reaches the end of your fingertips

CLASSIC FIT TROUSERS

The Right Fit

Your trousers are the anchor of your ensemble. It’s important to choose the right fit. Classic fit trousers can be pleated or flat front and they are characterized by a more generous fit. Relaxed in the thighs and straight through the knees, a classic fit is timeless and supersedes trends and fashion. You can’t go wrong with classic fit trousers.

Classic Fit Trouser Waist

Classic fit trousers waistband should be neither too baggy nor too tight. Pockets should lay flat upon the hip, not pull apart. If pockets expand, a larger size waistband is necessary. For the perfect fit, two fingers should fit between the waistband and the hips on both sides when not wearing a belt.

Classic Fit Trouser Hem

Although it is a matter of preference, classic trousers traditionally break once before the top of the shoe. In the back, the hemline should halfway cover the sole of the shoe. In the front, it should be just slightly higher, so that the tops of the shoes are covered.

Classic Fit Trouser Leg

Classic fit trousers are more generous around the thighs, tapering slightly throughout the leg to the hemline.

Classic Fit Trouser Features

  • 1Waistband sits just above the hips
  • 2Can be flat front or pleated
  • 3Legs taper slightly to the hemline for a generous fit
  • 4Pockets should lay flat and not pull
  • 5Trouser hem breaks once before the top of the shoe

CLASSIC FIT SHIRTS

Confidence Begins With Your Shirt

Our Brook Taverner shirts are meticulously designed to provide the perfect form under our suit jackets. A well-fitted classic fit shirt will elevate the suit and tie worn with it, making you feel your confident best. Understanding how to get the right fit for your body type and sense of style will serve a man well whether he is on his way to the office or an evening on the town.

Shirt Collar and Shoulder Seams

A well-fitted shirt collar should allow for one finger between the neck and the collar. Shoulder seams should meet directly at the corner of your shoulder bone.

Classic Fit Shirt Sleeve Length

For the perfect fit, the sleeve of your shirt should fall where your wrist meets your hand when arms are resting at your side. To achieve this, be sure the sleeve itself is long enough to reach beyond the wrist while the cuff circumference is tight enough to prevent the sleeve from slipping to the back of the hand.

Classic Fit Shirt Torso

The midsection of your shirt is one of the most important areas. When it fits properly you’ll still look polished, even when your suit jacket is removed. For the classic fit, the torso is more roomy, but should never be sloppy. If you can pull more than 4 inches of fabric away from your body, the shirt is too big.

Classic Fit Shirt Features

  • 1Collar should have a finger space when fully buttoned
  • 2Armholes are high enough to allow movement without restricting motion
  • 3Shoulder seam meets the edge of your shoulder
  • 4Sleeve falls to where wrist meets hand
  • 5Cuffs should be tight enough to prevent the sleeve from slipping too far down
  • 6Torso shouldn’t give more than 3-4 inches of fabric when pulled away from body
  • 7Classic fit shirts may vary in length but should be long enough to tuck in without pulling out of waistband when arms are raised chest high.
